Sales for Capcom's games dropped 44% in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025
Capcom has disclosed its financial results for the first quarter concluding on March 31, 2025, with a notable decline in game sales compared to the same period last year.
However, the firm mentioned in its report that "all business segments outperformed the company's plan."
The numbers
For the quarter ending June 30, 2024:
- Net sales: ¥29.6 billion ($192 million), a decrease of 32.5% year-over-year
- Digital Contents net sales: ¥21.4 billion ($138 million), a decline of 43.5% year-over-year
- Net income: ¥9.97 billion ($64.7 million), down 45.1% year-over-year
The highlights
Despite a near 44% drop in game sales, other divisions performed well: Arcade Operations grew by 18%, and Amusement Equipments surged by 147%.
In the Digital Contents sector, older titles remained dominant as most of the year's new releases are slated for the second half of 2024.
During the quarter, Capcom sold 9.53 million game units, compared to 13.5 million in the same quarter last year, which had seen the launch of Street Fighter 6.
As previously reported, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, originally released in 2021, hit two million units sold this quarter. The entire Monster Hunter franchise has now surpassed 100 million copies globally.
Additionally, the mobile game Monster Hunter Now has been downloaded 15 million times.
The company mentioned that its progress towards the full-year plan is "generally in line" with expectations for its Digital Contents segment.
Looking forward, Capcom expects to achieve ¥165 billion ($1.07 billion) in net sales for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, marking an 8.3% year-over-year growth.
