Elden Ring experiences a 467% surge in sales following the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, as documented in the UK Monthly Charts
In June, sales of console and PC games in the UK reached 2.53 million units, showing a decline of almost 14% compared to the same month last year, according to GSD data.
June 2023 featured major releases like Diablo IV, Final Fantasy 16, F1 23, and Street Fighter 6, making it a bustling period. However, June 2024 had fewer significant launches.
Leading the sales charts for June was EA Sports FC 24. EA's football game capitalized on the ongoing European Championship in Germany.
The highest-selling new release of June was F1 24, ranking third. It had a less impressive launch compared to its predecessor, F1 23, with sales down 44% over the first five weeks.
Elden Ring experienced a significant surge, climbing 19 spots with a 467% increase in sales month-over-month. The addition of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion late in the month fueled this growth.
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD by Nintendo debuted at No.14. The ranking could have been higher, but Nintendo's lack of digital sales data sharing means only physical sales were counted. The game launched at the end of the month.
Surge in DualSense Controller Sales
Console sales saw a minor drop in June, down 9% from the previous year, totaling nearly 99,000 units (GfK panel data).
PS5 maintains a strong lead, outselling the combined figures of its competitors. The Nintendo Switch dropped to third place, narrowly edged out by Xbox Series S and X, both of which are nearly tied year-to-date.
The overall console market in the UK has decreased by 29% in units and 31% in revenue this year. Contributing factors include last year's strong PS5 recovery post-restock and the Nintendo Switch's age, now in its eighth year.
Accessory sales in UK retail amounted to 655,000 units in June, a 16% increase from the previous year (GfK data). This rise was driven by promotions on the PS5 DualSense controller, which dominated the top four positions (Midnight Black, White, Cosmic Red, and Starlight Blue). The average selling price fell by £10 from May to June.
GfK's Dorian Bloch noted that the number of additional DualSense controllers sold matches the number of PS5 units sold, indicating that the average PS5 buyer owns one extra controller.
