In 2023, mobile gaming contributed to 49% of the global gaming industry's total revenue, amounting to $90.4 billion, as revealed by Adjust's newest analysis.
The 2024 Mobile App Trends report, which spans data collected from January 2022 to January 2024, noted a 6% year-over-year boost in in-app earnings for gaming apps, though overall consumer expenditure dipped by 2% to $107 billion.
Leading the charts in consumer spending were Candy Crush Saga, Honour of Kings, Roblox, Royal Match, and Coin Master.
Adjust anticipates that expenditure on advertising will soar to $103 billion in 2024 and further to $131 billion in 2025.
Global mobile game downloads and usage sessions experienced a decline of 2% and 7% respectively. However, Q4 2023 saw a 7% year-over-year rise in downloads. Notably, LATAM reported a 19% increase, followed by EMEA at 12%, North America at 6%, and APAC at 3%.
In terms of global downloads last year, Subway Surfers led the rankings, followed by Free Fire, Roblox, Ludo King, and Candy Crush Saga.
Status-wise among various genres, action games secured 18% of installs, while hyper casual and puzzle games each attained 14%.
Action genres dominated session rates at 27%, with puzzle and sports games trailing at 12%, board games at 7%, and casual games at 6%.
