"M.Video-Eldorado": In the first quarter of 2024, Russians spent more on purchasing consoles than they did throughout the entire year of 2022

Spending by Russians on consoles continues to grow, writes the retail chain "M.Video-Eldorado." In the first quarter of 2024, they increased by 104% year-on-year, reaching 12.5 billion rubles.

"M.Video-Eldorado" anticipates that the Russian console market could set a revenue record in 2024. The retailer forecasts that if the current pace continues, console sales will reach at least 40 billion rubles by the end of the year. For comparison: the previous record, set in 2023, was 24 billion rubles. In 2022, console sales were much more modest, totaling 10 billion rubles.

The retailer also reported that in the first four months of 2024, Russians bought 580,000 consoles. This is a 69% increase compared to January-April 2023. The most popular model is the PlayStation 5 with a disc drive, with sales exceeding 100,000 units. Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch also traditionally enjoyed success. Sales of retro consoles grew as well, rising by 2.5% over the year to 200,000 units.

  • PlayStation 5: GTA V, Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat 1, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Hogwarts Legacy.
  • PlayStation 4: GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War, Mortal Kombat 11, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
  • Xbox Series: Hogwarts Legacy, Forza Horizon 3, Diablo 4, Titanfall, and the remake of Resident Evil 4.
  • Nintendo Switch: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, Red Dead Redemption, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Everybody 1-2 Switch.

According to "M.Video-Eldorado," half of all games sold between January and April were versions for PlayStation 4, with another 27% being versions for PlayStation 5. Nintendo Switch games took third place in popularity, but their share size is not disclosed. The share of Xbox games is 7.5%.
