Sales of Backpack Battles exceeded 500 thousand copies

Backpack Battles has become another indie hit. The authors of the game announced on social media that it took two weeks of early access to Steam to sell half a million copies.

Backpack Battles

Backpack Battles is a PvP autobatler with a focus on proper inventory management. In the game, users fight using items from their backpacks, and the outcome of the battle depends on the location of things.

Backpack Battles was created by the German indie studio PlayWithFurcifer, consisting of two people. As the developers admit, initially Backpack Battles was a side project, which they took up to distract themselves a little from working on the main game — Furcifer's Dungeon "roguelike" in the spirit of Vampire Survivors. However, unexpectedly for them, Backpack Battles began to become popular.

In one of the latest videos on YouTube, the authors of Backpack Battles said that they began to actively engage in the game in 2023. In May of that year, PlayWithFurcifer released a demo on Steam, the peak online of which exceeded 100 people. The game's audience grew strongly in the summer, after Backpack Battles was noticed by Chinese streamers, and the studio, deciding not to miss the chance, with the help of publisher IndieArk, added Chinese to the demo version. Over time, Backpack Battles attracted the attention of streamers from all over the world and turned from a side project of the studio into the main one.

Backpack Battles was released in early access format on Steam on March 8, 2024. A little less than two days later, its sales reached the first major milestone — 100,000 copies sold.

She currently has a "very positive" rating on Steam. At the time of writing the news, users of the site have left more than 5,700 reviews, of which 94% are positive. As for online, according to SteamDB, at its peak on March 13, 36,557 people were playing Backpack Battles at the same time.
