Monster Hunter Now hits 10 million downloads, with estimated revenue of nearly $40 million
Monster Hunter has reached a major milestone just over a month after its global launch. With the help of Pokémon Go developer Niantic, it seems that Capcom has a new successful mobile game in its portfolio.
Niantic shared the news on the official Monster Hunter Now website, saying that the game has already generated 10 million downloads worldwide.
“We are very grateful that so many people have been enjoying Monster Hunter Now in the month since its global release,” Ryozo Tsujimoto, producer of the Monster Hunter series at Capcom, said in a statement.
Niantic COO Kei Kawai said the company will continue to support the game and respond to player feedback.
According to AppMagic, Monster Hunter Now has reached $39.2 million in revenue from in-app purchases (reduced by platform fees and inclusive taxes) on iOS and Android since September 14. Japan is the number one country by revenue, accounting for 73% of the total. It is followed by Hong Kong (8%), the US (7%), Taiwan (5%), and South Korea (1%).
It is unclear how revenue will be split between Niantic and Capcom, but Monster Hunter Now could become an important project for the Japanese publisher in its mobile expansion strategy. In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023, this segment brought in less than $20 million in revenue for the company. And as Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto told Bloomberg last month, the company wants to produce more AAA mobile titles.
Monster Hunter Now is also one of the best launches for Niantic in years, especially given that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, another AR title based on a popular IP, was eventually shut down in 2022. Pokémon Go remains the company’s biggest hit, with over $6 billion in lifetime revenue (as of June 2022).
