Activision Blizzard Quarterly report: revenue grew by a third, and profit almost doubled
On April 26, Activision Blizzard published a financial report for the first quarter of 2023. The revenue of all its divisions has increased.
Activision Blizzard earned $2.38 billion in January-March. Compared to last year, revenue increased by 35%. Net profit amounted to $740 million — an increase of 87%.
Activision‘s revenue increased by 28% to $580 million. However, the monthly active audience of its games (MAU) decreased by 2% and amounted to 98 million people.
Blizzard games brought the company $443 million, which is 62% more than in 2022. Their MAU rose by 22.7% to 27 million people.
King earned $739 million, showing an increase of 8%. The MAU of its games fell 2.8% to 243 million people.
Activision Blizzard called mobile a strategically important platform for the company and noted that net receipts (net bookings) of its mobile games doubled over the year. Mainly due to the success of Candy Crush, Call of Duty Mobile and Diablo Immortal.
Note: after the British regulator blocked the deal with Microsoft, Activision Blizzard shares fell by 11.45%. At the close of the exchange, they were trading at a price of $76.81 apiece. Because of this, the publisher’s capitalization dropped to $ 60.24 billion. The release of the financial report did not help to correct the fall.
