Playdate sales exceeded 53 thousand devices. Two and a half times more than Panic expected

On July 29, 2021, Panic opened pre-orders for the portable hurdy-gurdy console Playdate. The company said it has since sold 53,142 copies of the device.

According to Greg Maletic, project manager at Panic, it was originally planned to produce only 20 thousand copies of Playdate. But the company sold all these devices in less than 20 minutes from the start of pre-orders.

To date, Panic has sent users 27 thousand Playdate. She is going to send out the remaining consoles before the end of the year.

Panic also reported that projects from Catalog — a store with games and applications for Playdate — were downloaded 19.57 thousand times. The company launched Catalog on March 7, 2023.
