Square Enix talked about the cumulative sales of its role-playing series
Despite the fact that the financial year of the Japanese Square Enix ended on March 31, the company for some reason decided to publish a large final document on it only now. In it, among other things, there are sales figures of the three main role-playing series of the company for the entire time of their existence.
So, according to the document:
▫️since the release of the first game in 1987, the Final Fantasy series has sold 173 million copies (here and further we are talking about direct sales and shipments to stores);
▫️since the release in 1986 on the NES, sales of the Dragon Quest series have crossed the mark of 85 million copies sold;
Debuted in March 2002 on PlayStation 2, the Kingdom Hearts series has now reached sales of 36 million copies.
You recommend reading the document itself, it contains a letter to investors from the president of Square Enix Group Yosuke Matsuda, in which he also talks about the company’s strategy (for example, about the reasons for the sale of Eidos).
