NPD: the revenue of the US gaming market will fall to $55 billion in 2022
Analysts continue to talk about a slight drop in the gaming market. NPD Group predicts that the spending of American users on video games in 2022 will amount to approximately $55.5 billion — 8.7% less in annual terms.
This is approximately at the level of 2020 ($56.1 billion) and slightly more than in 2019 ($43.4 billion).
As analyst Mat Piscatella notes, there are several main reasons for the decline:
▫️increase in food and fuel prices;
▫️problems with the supply of consoles and other hardware;
▫️the “empty” release calendar amid numerous game postponements;
The surge in the number of new players that occurred in 2020 and 2021 and, as a result, costs are gradually coming to naught.
NPD Group expects that the best-selling console of 2022 in the United States will be the Nintendo Switch. And the only device that will show growth in dollar terms will be the Xbox Series X|S.
The best-selling title in the USA will be Elden Ring. This is only the third case since 2009 when the first place will not go to Call of Duty.
