The revenue of the Chinese gaming industry amounted to more than $12 billion in the first quarter. 76% of revenue came from mobile games
In the first quarter of 2022, the Chinese gaming industry earned more than $12 billion. The market continues to grow, and mobile games account for the bulk of revenue.
GameLook has posted data from the new Gamma Data report on this topic. We publish a brief extract:
- the total revenue of the Chinese market for the first quarter was $12.1 billion. This is 3.17% more than last year;
- although industry revenues are increasing, the growth rate has slowed compared to the first quarter of 2021;
- mobile games earned $9.2 billion in the first quarter, which is 2.72% more than last year’s results;
- The main factor in the growth of the market was the continued success of games such as Genshin Impact and Fantasy Westward Journey 3D;
- Civilization and Conquest became the best-selling game of the quarter, earning a total of $76.2 million for the period;
- in second place was Return to Empire, a mobile version of the Age of Empires title developed by Tencent. It was released in China last month and earned $45.7 million.
