5.7 million copies of games and DLC sold: Czech studio Bohemia Interactive reported for 2020
Bohemia Interactive talked about its successes in 2020. In the report, Czech developers mostly went through old and new projects, and also revealed plans for this year.
The company shared the details of the past year on its blog. This time, Bohemia practically did not disclose financial indicators, so how much the studio earned in 2020 is unknown. Instead, the developers mentioned that their total number of active users had grown to 14 million, and sales of all game products (titles + DLC themselves) exceeded 5.7 million.
DayZ and Arma 3 became bestsellers again.
DayZ
In 2019, the PC game has versions for PS4 and Xbox One. In 2020, Bohemia decided to expand the representation of the title even more. In May, DayZ was included in the Xbox Game Pass subscription, and in November it became available on new generation consoles — PS5 and Xbox Series X | S (as part of backward compatibility).
- Sales of the basic edition for 2020 amounted to about 1.3 million copies.
- DLC sales for the game are 758 thousand copies.
- The number of active users for the year is 6.4 million.
Arma 3
In 2020, the Czech studio was actively engaged in charity work. For example, in August, she sold 52 thousand bundles with games on a special Humble Bundle site, after which she donated the money raised. In 2021, Bohemia plans to launch the Art of War DLC in Arma 3, the proceeds from which will also go to charity.
- Sales of the basic edition for 2020 reached 1.1 million copies.
- DLC sales for the game are 2.2 million copies.
- The number of active users for the year is 2.3 million.
Bohemia did not provide sales figures for the rest of the games, but noted that everything was fine with the projects. Vigor appeared on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series S|X and received 4.6 active players in a year. Ylands regularly launched 645 thousand people during 2020.
Let’s add that last year Bohemia also worked on the mobile Mini DayZ 2. In November, the studio held a geo-beta of the iOS version of the title for residents of Canada, Turkey, the Philippines, the Czech Republic and Scandinavian countries. However, in the first half of 2021, the developers promise to launch an open beta test of Mini DayZ 2 on iOS and Android in all regions. The global release is expected to take place this summer.
As for the Enfusion engine, in 2020 the studio was still engaged in its development. Among other things, Bohemia has updated the rendering function and improved the performance of the engine. According to the company, work on improving the technology will continue in 2021.
