CD Projekt may be fined 10% of annual revenue as a result of Cyberpunk 2077 audit

The Polish Office for the Protection of Competition and Consumer Rights (UOKiK) will check the situation around the release of Cyberpunk 2077. As a result, CD Projekt may face a fine of 10% of annual revenue.UOKiK suspects CD Projekt of deceiving customers.

Officials also admit that the company’s management intends to mislead investors, which could lead to their financial losses.

For the first time, news about the upcoming inspection appeared in the Polish newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. According to the publication, UOKiK will first discuss the situation with the developers, and then decide on further investigation.

“We will check how the manufacturer is working on making corrections and solving problems that prevent the game from working on different consoles. We will also check how the company intends to act in relation to persons who have filed complaints and were dissatisfied with the purchase due to the inability to play the game on their own device, despite the previous assurances of the developers,” said UOKiK representative Malgorzata Cieloch.

But even if CD Projekt demonstrates active work on errors, the company can still be caught in unfair marketing activities before the release. In this case, the authors of the game face serious sanctions.

In addition to the fine, CD Projekt may be required to return funds to disappointed users, as well as offer additional bonuses in the form of free digital content or gadgets.
