The turnover of the gaming industry in the United States reached $35.4 billion in 2019
In 2019, the American gaming market totaled $35.4 billion. This includes revenue from the titles themselves (including mobile) and in-game content.
This data was provided by the American Association of Software and Games Manufacturers (ESA) with reference to NPD. According to their calculations, the market has grown by 2% over the year. But there are two nuances.
Last year’s industry turnover in the United States reached $35.8 billion. That is, in fact, by the end of 2019, the turnover decreased by 1% in annual terms. But in 2018, spending on gaming content covered 53 weeks, and in 2019 – 52 weeks. Analysts got a 2% increase only by adjusting the data to take into account the same number of weeks (52).
The second nuance: ESA did not disclose how much the dynamics of sales of gaming devices has changed. By version Gamesindustry.biz, data on devices could not be taken into account at all when calculating the total market turnover. Nevertheless, earlier, NPD separately from the Association reported that annual spending on equipment in the United States fell by 22%.
It is also noted that cash sales of full-fledged copies of games, add-ons for consoles, as well as spending on mobile games and subscriptions have increased. But the number of copies sold both at retail and digitally on PC has decreased.
