AppMagic analysts have published a report on hyper-casual games. They listed the 10 most popular games in the fourth quarter of 2022, and also shared key trends.
Snake LiteMain conclusions
- In October-December, hyper-casual games totaled 3.68 billion downloads. This is 2% less than in the third quarter of 2022, and 7% less than in the fourth quarter of 2021.
- For the whole of 2022, hyper—casual games collected 15.5 billion downloads – an increase of 5% year-on-year.
- The total revenue of the genre with IAP for the fourth quarter was $45.56 million, for the full year — $172.9 million.
Top 10 most downloaded hyper casual games for the fourth quarter
- The first place in the chart went to Snake Lite. Users downloaded it 32.29 million times in October-December 2022.
- Bridge Race, which had been leading the previous two quarters, dropped to second place, collecting 31.18 million downloads. Along with her, the top ten most popular hypercazuals of the quarter included such old-timers of the rating as Race Master 3D (fourth place with 28.96 million downloads), Tall Man Run (eighth place with 27 million downloads) and Going Balls (ninth place with 24.4 million downloads).
- DOP 4: Draw One Part returned to the chart. The game was in the top 10 for almost the entire year 2022, dropping out of it only in the third quarter. Now it has taken the fifth place with 28.9 million downloads — 42% more than a quarter ago.
- As for new products, there are four of them in the chart. The best result for the quarter was shown by Save the Doge, which is located on the third line with 30.17 million downloads.
Save the Doge is a puzzle game in which the user has to draw a shelter to protect the dog from bees. As AppMagic analysts noted, the creators of the game were inspired by the meme dog Dog, copying the appearance for the character from it. In addition, they, like many other developers of hyper-casual games, picked up the idea from viral videos from TikTok. In such videos, people are just rescuing dogs from various dangerous situations — at the time of writing, videos with the tag “Save dogs” have a total of 769 million views on TikTok.
- Car Games 3D took the sixth place, collecting 28.8 million downloads.
Car Games 3D is like a mix of GTA V and aquapark.io from Voodoo, and also in many ways resembles Race Master 3D, which is in the fourth line of the chart. According to analysts, such projects often go viral on TikTok and Twitter.
- The coloring book Color Page ASMR debuted in seventh place. It has been downloaded 28.65 million times.
One of the reasons for the success of Color Page ASMR may be its relative simplicity compared to other coloring books, according to AppMagic analysts. The fact is that in mobile coloring books it is often problematic to accurately paint over the whole picture without breaking the contours of the figures. Whereas the developers of Color Page ASMR have reduced the accuracy requirements.
Color Page ASMR is the second novelty that can be attributed to puzzles. Perhaps the appearance of such games in the chart is a new trend.
- The last place in the hyper-casual chart went to Fish Go.io. Its downloads for the quarter amounted to 23.19 million.
Fish Go.io is a typical representative of the popular io subgenre a few years ago, analysts write. The title was released in 2019, but for a long period Fish Go.io did not enjoy great success. Until the fall of 2022, it collected an average of 50 thousand downloads per day, but in October, the number of daily downloads of the game increased dramatically, reaching a peak of 680 thousand. It is not known what the jump is connected with.
