Color Switch reported 100 million downloads (UPDATED)

The Color Switch mobile game, originally made by two developers in a week without using code, has collected 100 million downloads in 8 months since its release.

Color Switch отчитался о 100 млн загрузок

The story is a bit like a fairy tale. David Reichelt, together with Aditya Oz, created Color Switch in just one week using the Buildbox package, which allows you to build games without writing code at all (including for mobile platforms).

The project is a minimalistic arcade game in the spirit of Flappy Bird. The player’s goal is to pass the ball through the game obstacles. The ball can only pass through obstacles of the same color as itself.

In January of this year it became known that the publisher of the project Fortafy Games started working with the studio Eyebox Games.

With the help of the latter, the game was moved from Buildbox to native code. This was done so that a number of functions could be added that were not initially supported by the engine. In particular, the publisher added “hundreds of levels and more than 20 game modes” to the game. And, most likely, it will add no less in the future: the project receives an update once every one / two weeks.

In eight months, the game has not only managed to become the leader in iOS downloads in 53 countries, but also to overcome the mark of 100 million downloads.

By the way, Color Switch is not the only Buildbox game that has gained fame. The Pit project published by Ketchapp, which has been in the gaming Top 10 on iOS in 28 regions, was also created using this package. To date, Apple has featured about 50 games created on Buildbox.

The Pit(Edit): Initially, they made a mistake and wrote that the publisher Fortafy Games, not Eyebox Games, helped the authors of the original idea to rewrite the game.
