New Star Wars Movie Raises Revenue for Themed Games
The movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stimulated downloads and sales in mobile games based on the franchise. This is according to the results of its own research, the mobile analytics company Sensor Tower reports.
22 mobile games were investigated, including Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga and Star Wars: Commander.
Sensor Tower experts tracked the downloads on December 4, December 11 and December 18 (the day of the film’s premiere in the USA). After that, the analysts compared the indicators of themed games on the given days.
It turned out that on the day of the premiere, the titles were downloaded 381 thousand times in total. This is 102% more than the average number of downloads for the previous two control days. The largest number of downloads (164 thousand) was for the game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga has been downloaded 41 thousand times, and Star Wars: Commander – 29 thousand.
Fans of the franchise spent an average of $222,000 on themed mobile games on December 4 and 11. On the day of the premiere, this amount increased to $ 335 thousand. Most of the purchases were made by fans in the game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (186 thousand).
The conclusion, according to representatives of Sensor Tower, is obvious. The increased performance of games is a direct consequence of the marketing policy of the franchise owners. “In many cases, the growth in revenue and game downloads is just a residual phenomenon of the Disney and Lucasfilm advertising campaign,” Sensor Tower experts comment on the company’s blog.
