In a move highlighting the rise of gambling sponsorships in esports, Danish Counter-Strike squad Ecstatic has partnered with Gamban, known for its efforts to combat gambling addiction through its software.

This collaboration is a milestone as it is the inaugural instance of an esports team being primarily sponsored by an enterprise dedicated to preventing gambling-related issues.

Ecstatic described this alliance as an "innovative partnership aimed at safeguarding individuals instead of endorsing gambling," as shared in their press release on September 12, 2025.

Gamban offers a tool that blocks gambling sites and apps, aiding individuals in their battle against gambling addiction.

"For over a decade, Gamban has been pivotal in aiding individuals to block gambling sites, facilitating their recovery," remarked Matt Zarb-Cousin, co-founder of the company.

"Collaborating with a team that completely eschews gambling sponsorships is a significant first step. We hope this encourages others to invest in esports responsibly," he added.

The collaboration will also launch a community Discord hub, providing resources such as anonymous peer support, expert lectures, and practical strategies for individuals wishing to reduce or eliminate their gambling habits.

The initiative aims to ensure that obtaining assistance is simple and without stigma, particularly targeting the younger demographic of esports fans, as well as demonstrating that non-gambling sponsors can also be successful in the esports industry.

"This holds personal significance for me," stated Ecstatic's co-owner, Oliver 'zipeL' Behrensdorff.

"I’ve personally grappled with gambling issues and using Gamban marked the start of my recovery journey. Our goal isn't moral superiority but extending support to those in need."

An Esports Insider report highlights that gambling sponsors account for 25% of the overall revenue in esports sponsorships. Teams like FazeClan, Fnatic, and Heroic have secured agreements with betting companies.

In June, Riot Games allowed betting sponsors for premier League of Legends and Valorant teams in the Americas and EMEA. The company has implemented "safeguards" for the ecosystem, which include a vetted partnerships program.

"We acknowledge that sports betting isn't for everyone and respect the varied opinions within our audience," explained John Needham, Riot Games' president of publishing and esports, through a blog post.

He added, "The truth is that betting is already prevalent in our sports and it will persist regardless of our involvement."
