Hangzhou will spend $14 million annually to support the video game and esports industries
The government of the Chinese city of Hangzhou will begin to pay more attention to the development of local gaming and esports industries. It announced its decision on the eve of the Asian Summer Games, which will be held next year, including on the territory of Hangzhou.
The authorities said they want to build a “good ecosystem” for these industries in the city. In particular, a number of local universities will have specialties related to video games and esports.
The Hangzhou authorities did not say anything about whether it is planned to allocate subsidies directly to developers.
