Unity 5 was released: all functionality is free
Unity Technologies has officially released the fifth version of its engine. One of the main innovations, apart from, of course, new technologies and tools, is the expansion of the list of free functions.
If earlier it was necessary to pay if the team was going to make a game not for a PC, as well as for a number of features, now all these restrictions have been removed from the free version, named Unity 5 Personal Edition.
“This version offers all the powerful functionality of the Unity engine and editor, including profiler, Occlusion Culling, render textures, full-screen special effects, physically correct shading, powerful graphics with a new set of tools for creating realistic lighting and stunning visual effects, a new system for working with audio,” the company said in an official press release..
That’s just if the company earned or raised more than $ 100 thousand on investments over the previous year, then it will be asked to switch to the paid version – Unity 5 Professional Edition. For one of its licenses, you will have to pay either $ 1,500 or pay $75 per month. Plus, if a company has purchased a professional version, and wants to create games for iOS and Android, then, in case of high incomes, it will need to buy two licenses per person at once.
As for the features of the paid version, these are: the Unity Cloud Build Pro service, the Team License, the Game Performance Reporting monitoring service, access to the Asset Store Level 11, the Unity Analytics Pro analytics service, as well as access to previews and beta versions of the engine.
Both versions do not provide for charging a percentage of sales.
