Wargaming has released a game based on the Unreal Engine
The Wargaming company, with the support of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, has released a free game without IAP, and even on Unreal Engine.
When I saw an article on RBC yesterday about the appearance of the Tank Biathlon project in the App Store and Google Play, to be honest, I was not surprised. Many people are trying to be friends with the government of the Russian Federation and produce “patriotic games” today. For Wargaming, which has done “more for Russian patriotism than the entire Russian film industry, Russian science fiction writers and Russian deputies,” this is also quite a logical and, let’s say, consolidating step.
Something else seemed interesting. The Tank Biathlon brand itself was recently patented by Voentorg. The game was released on mobile markets not on behalf of Wargaming.net as it usually happens with projects of Belarusians, and from Wargaming RUS LLC. Against the background of the complete lack of information about the project on the official page of the company, I generally doubted the connection between the game “Tank Biathlon” and Wargaming.net .
Suspicions, later dispelled, however, were reinforced by the following fact: “Tank Biathlon” was already published in July this year to the whole world (!). Only then a certain Grotburn OU, registered in Tallinn, was listed as its publisher. The project even reached 56th place in the game top downloads in the Russian App Store, and Pocket Gamer UK wrote a detailed review in which the game was given 5 out of 10 points.
A repeated release, and one already made with pomp, is a non-standard step.
To the question of the company’s representatives, is the “Tank Biathlon” a project Wargaming.net and if so, can they comment on the “re-launch” story, we received the following response:
“This game is really our development. Previously, it was available in test mode for the guests of the Tank Biathlon 2014*, as well as for everyone.”
*Tank biathlon is a real competition between tank crews, held in Russia since 2013, an analogue of the Canadian Army Trophy, which was held between NATO countries from 1963 until the collapse of the USSR.
And, by the way, confirmation is also an interesting fact, since it testifies to the experiments of one of the largest players in the MMO market with engines, or rather, attention to Epic Games technologies.
As for the game itself, it is a very pleasant project, but still strictly focused on those who love tanks.
Since the game was created as a kind of government project aimed at popularizing the Russian army, it is distributed not only for free, but also without any hint of micropayments.
