Epic Games has released Unreal Engine 4.5
Less than six months have passed, and Epic has pleased its users with an updated version of its engine. There is a feeling that it is not far from a full-fledged “five”.
However, at the moment we are unlikely to be able to call Unreal popular among developers (and even more so among mobile game developers) against the background of the ubiquitous Unity. And so far, despite the active changes in the tools and management policy, this situation persists. Let’s hope that the introduction of the store into active operation, as well as the low price of the tools themselves, will reverse the current course of things.
As for the new version itself, according to the official press release, it includes about 40 new features and fixes. Among others, we would like to mention the following:
- The process of creating a game UI has been simplified (it resembles working with effects in Affter Effects, no programming + the created interface will now scale automatically).
- Unreal Engine now automatically releases C++ code after compilation in Visual Studio or Xcode.
- Support for video textures.
- In the project options, you can now select the devices that the game should support, and the engine will automatically select the optimal settings.
