Summing up 2013: Interview with Unity Evangelist
Together with our industry colleagues, we continue to summarize the results of 2013. This article contains an interview with Unity evangelist Oleg Pridyuk.

What event/trend would you call the key event in the outgoing year in the mobile applications and games industry?
Is "key" from the word key? Then the new ones are the announcement and release of a new generation of game consoles. They have come to a wonderful new world where the indie gaming industry is catching up with the branded old-timers of the market in terms of importance and quality of games. For the whole world, this means that gamers will be distracted from the numbers and ratings on the Apple App Store and start experimenting with new platforms — read: there will be many interesting, unusual console games. For game industry figures, the news sounds different: "your Unity game for iOS can now be released on the console as well." Everyone is delighted!
What would you call the main event for your company this year?
All Unity Technologies executives are actively celebrating Christmas, it will not be possible to provide an answer for the entire company in time. But I have a picture for you.:
We have grown to 340 people, opened new representative offices and development offices, and announced a publishing business in China and the world. We also recently celebrated crossing the 2,000,000 user threshold. Moreover, Russia is the sixth most active Unity user in the world.
Summing up my evasive answer, I want to recall a gaming joke that conquered Twitter and the Internet after the release of 2D functionality in Unity: "astrologers have announced the year of 2D games. The number of 2D games in the AppStore is doubling."
Please name one or two games (not from your company) that you can call the best projects on mobile platforms based on the results of the outgoing year.
I have a mind, friends, to name one or two games that I like, or roll out a list of Unity titles from famous developers such as DeusEx: The Fall, Call of Duty: Strike Team, The Drowning, République… Perhaps the first one is better :)
I love and respect indie developers, in fact, for them, first of all, I try. In 2013, the team from St. Petersburg released Leviathan, a very bold adventure game that tries to get out of the AppStore. On the global stage, I would single out The Silent Age (although Apple also singled it out ...), which vividly demonstrates the talent and capabilities of a modern indie developer.
And here's another photo in the subject!
Happy New Year!
Thanks for the interview!
