Report: EA owners are in talks to buy Unity for $25 billion
The company Unity is being targeted for acquisition. According to sources from Reuters, a consortium of investors, including the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Silver Lake, has shown interest.
According to the agency, potential buyers approached Unity a few weeks ago. While not all the offered terms have been disclosed, it’s known that they have valued the company at $25 billion, exceeding its current market capitalization. At the time of writing, that stands at $21.5 billion.
It is also reported that the acquisition of Unity is intended to be financed through a leveraged buyout (LBO) — a scheme previously used to acquire Electronic Arts. Should the deal be finalized, Unity would exit the stock market and cease to be a public company.
Currently, Unity is working with an investment bank to analyze all possible courses of action, reports Reuters.
Notably, Silver Lake already owns 8% of Unity’s shares. As for PIF, they have not previously invested in the company, but have been collaborating with it for over a year through their subsidiary, Savvy Games Group. In August 2025, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding, granting Saudi game developers access to Unity’s tools.
Both Silver Lake and PIF recently participated in the acquisition of Electronic Arts. Together with Affinity Partners, they purchased the company for $55 billion. Whether plans for buying Unity were already established at that time or emerged only now remains unknown.
