Google has introduced an AI platform for game development directly in the browser. Unity is also

Google Corporation has decided to compete with Roblox. It announced Playground — a browser-based platform that allows making games using prompts.

As Google explained, Playground users do not need to have programming skills. It's enough to describe the intended game, and then make changes to game physics, environment, characters, gameplay, and other aspects through text commands. If desired, beginners can refer to step-by-step guides or start from scratch right away.

“You have full control over the creative process: from the initial idea to the final product,” Google emphasized.

You can keep the finished game accessible only to yourself, or you can open it to others. For instance, you can send a direct link to friends or post it in the Playground Explore gallery for all users. Some genres in Playground include multiplayer and leaderboards.

Playground is based on already existing AI models by Google, including Gemini, Nano Banana, and Lyria.

Meanwhile, the company Unity revealed Unity Spark — its more advanced AI tool for game development, in which they are collaborating with Google. It will integrate the Unity Asset Store, allowing users to utilize assets distributed there. Games created with Unity Spark can then be published in Playground.

Unity Spark is currently preparing for a closed beta test, scheduled to start by the end of the year. In contrast, Playground is already available in an experimental format for U.S. residents — access for other countries will open later.
