Unity 7 is set to debut in the first quarter of 2027, with the new engine being a "direct continuation" of Unity 6

Unity 7 is set to commence its beta testing phase in December 2026, with plans for a complete launch by the first quarter of 2027.

During the Unite Seoul conference, Unity revealed that its latest engine will do away with conventional version upgrades. More details can be found on their website.

Unity 7 will extend the existing architecture of Unity 6, ensuring that all new functionalities have been thoroughly tested and validated within the current framework.

Adam Smith, Unity's senior vice president of product, explained to Game Developer that the steady architecture will allow teams to transition smoothly without disrupting their established workflows.

Enhancements in Unity 7 include a new command-line interface and public API, empowering artists and developers to validate assets seamlessly using their own tools without needing complete access to Unity's editor. Additionally, a complimentary MCP is available for interaction with AI coding agents.

Built on CoreCLR groundwork, Unity 7 incorporates advanced rendering capabilities such as the Surface Cache GI for real-time global illumination.

According to Unity, these advancements will offer more sophisticated lighting and visual intricacies across all platforms, leveraging AI-enhanced graphics optimization from high-end computers to mobile devices.

A major element of Unity 7 is its incorporation of new AI tools, although as Smith noted, engaging with these tools is optional for developers.

Smith also stated, "Unity 7 aims to enable collaboration between humans and coding agents. However, whether or not to utilize AI remains a decision for each team."

This version of Unity introduces direct sales capabilities, no-code web stores, and unified catalogs that feed purchasing data directly into Unity Vector, the AI engine.

"We're in a period of rapid change in game development," commented Unity CEO and president Matt Bromberg. "Success will come to those harnessing new technologies to craft unique experiences and captivate audiences. Unity 7 is designed to support such innovation."
