Assets from Chinese developers will be removed from the Unity Asset Store

They will be removed from the global store version on March 31, 2026.

Unity announced an upcoming “cleanup” of the global Unity Asset Store on its official forum. The company explained that it made this decision due to “updates in regional licensing, distribution, and compliance requirements” for asset authors from what’s referred to as Greater China. This region includes not only China but also places like Hong Kong and Macau. The company did not specify exactly what changes were made to the requirements.

Unity emphasized that users who purchase Chinese assets before the end of March will still be able to use them. However, some users will also be eligible for refunds — returns can be requested only by those who made purchases within the last six months.

It is worth noting that in addition to the global version, Unity Asset Store has a separate version for China. It seems Unity has decided to permanently separate them.

This is not Unity’s first step of this kind. Last year, the company ceased distributing the Unity 6 engine in China, replacing it with a specially modified engine for the region known as 团结引擎 or Tuanjie.
