Media: Unity introduces a new fee for Enterprise license holders, ranging from $250,000 to $2 million per year
The company Unity has once again decided to make changes to its pricing policy, according to sources at MobileGamer. The new measure affects teams using the Enterprise license — a plan for developers with an annual revenue exceeding $25 million.
As reported by MobileGamer, Unity recently sent a letter to these developers. It states that they will now be required to pay a mandatory minimum fee at the beginning of the year. This is akin to a forced partial prepayment — the amount paid will be credited towards their next license purchase.
According to MobileGamer, the amount of this new fee will depend on the developers’ gross revenue over the past 12 months. The higher the revenue, the greater the fee will be. For instance, teams with revenue between $25-50 million will need to pay Unity $250,000, while teams with revenue exceeding $250 million will have to pay $2 million.
Notably, the letter from Unity allegedly threatened to revoke licenses from teams that refused to pay the minimum fee.
MobileGamer has reached out to Unity for comment but has not yet received a response.
