JetBrains has begun to provide ongoing financial support to Godot

The future of the open-source engine is looking brighter.

The creators of the game engine have announced that JetBrains has become a platinum sponsor of the Godot Foundation, which is responsible for its development and support. This sponsorship amounts to at least £36,000 annually.

The partnership might be somewhat deeper than usual, as JetBrains' code editor — JetBrains Rider — also supports GDScript. Overall, the editor is positioned as being fully optimized for the engine's language.

Moreover, the Rider site states that since the editor is free for non-commercial use, it is also the "perfect tool" for learning Godot code and developing hobby projects.

In any case, the Godot toolkit has been gaining popularity recently. For instance, just the other day, we wrote about how it is being used as the UI for the mod editor of Battlefield 6.
