The modding toolkit for Battlefield 6 is based on Godot
The new part of Battlefield, set to release on October 10, will feature a tool for game modification—Portal. Its editor is essentially a modified version of Godot.

With this new solution, players will be able to:
- add objects to maps;
- create custom UI;
- introduce their own scripts.
DICE producer Alexia Christofi noted that thanks to Portal, players can create mods that significantly differ in mechanics from Battlefield. For instance, users have already created a top-down shooter, a puzzle, and a platformer with it.
Incidentally, the previous entry in the series—Battlefield 2042—also had Portal. However, the older version of the tool was an integrated web application solution that allowed changing general map conditions with buttons, sliders, and visual scripting.

In light of the announcement, it's unknown whether Electronic Arts, which owns the Battlefield series, has made any donations to The Godot Foundation, the organization supporting Godot, which is an open-source engine.
