The beta version of the Asset Store for the Godot engine has been released

The creators of the Godot engine have started beta testing their own asset store, a launch they have talked about for many years. In the future, it will replace the Godot Asset Library.

The announcement of the "beta" was made by the head of Godot Foundation, Emilio Coppola, on BlueSky — a post that gained attention from the Telegram channel, Gamedev suffering.

Currently, the Godot Asset Store is in the early stages of development, so its features are limited. For instance, the store only offers a little over 50 assets, all of which are free. In the Godot Asset Store roadmap, developers have indicated that paid assets will eventually be available but for now, the priority is transferring content from the Godot Asset Library.

Over time, the Godot Asset Store will include features such as support for Drag-and-Drop installation of assets, allowing users to simply drag an asset from the browser into the engine editor, sales analytics, a rating system, and many other options.

The full release date for the Godot Asset Store has not yet been disclosed.
