Godot will receive support for Apple Vision Pro. Apple itself will add it to the engine
The open-source engine Godot will soon support another platform. Apple has begun work on incorporating support for the visionOS operating system, which is the foundation of the AR headset Apple Vision Pro, into Godot.
This was reported on GitHub by senior software engineer at Apple, Ricardo Sanchez-Saez. According to him, the support implementation will be carried out in three main stages:
1. adding basic support for visionOS as a new platform in Godot. The starting point will be partially based on the code used for iOS;
2. enabling the compilation and linking of Swift files in Godot;
3. creating a plugin for Vision Pro VR.
Apple engineers already have the first build of the engine with visionOS support, but it requires further refinement. Sanchez-Saez mentioned that he would appreciate advice from the Godot community or those willing to test certain features.
As a reminder, in March, the Godot team released version 4.4 of the engine. It introduced support for the Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, and Meta Quest Pro headsets, belonging to Meta, a company recognized in Russia as extremist and banned.
