The Unity 6 engine is no longer distributed in China, but there are nuances
In February 2025, Chinese developers began reporting issues accessing Unity 6. It was recently revealed that the company behind the engine had indeed withdrawn it from sale in China.
In an official statement, the Unity team explained that instead of Unity 6 and all subsequent versions, they will now offer a specially designed engine for Chinese developers called 团结引擎 or Tuanjie.
According to the company, Tuanjie better addresses the needs of the Chinese market compared to Unity 6. For example, this engine includes tools for working with mini-games, which are extremely popular in the country.
Unity emphasized that these changes will not affect projects already created with Unity 6. Developers in China will still be able to release them worldwide. Furthermore, the Unity China division will continue to support Unity 2022 LTS and earlier versions of the engine.
