Unity announces backing for developers approved to create for the Nintendo Switch 2

Unity has announced that it will extend "official support for Nintendo Switch 2" to game developers.

The company revealed that this support will be accessible soon through a Unity 6 add-on tailored for approved Nintendo developers, broadening Unity’s dedication to facilitating game creators in realizing their projects across numerous platforms.

Those developing for Nintendo's upcoming console can anticipate improvements in rendering and performance, comprehensive multiplayer functionalities, and improved development resources.

Additionally, Unity aims to simplify the process for developers transferring their current Nintendo Switch games to the Nintendo Switch 2 by ensuring complete compatibility with key elements in Unity 6. These elements include updated input systems, build profiles, and an incremental build pipeline.

Matthew Bromberg, CEO and President of Unity, stated, “We’re excited to offer official support for Nintendo Switch 2."

He continued, expressing that Unity's thorough testing during the creation of a launch day title provided critical feedback, resulting in enhancements that will benefit developers crafting new titles for this console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5. The standard retail price for the Switch 2 unit is set at $450 (or £396 in the UK), with an option to purchase it for $500 bundled with Mario Kart World. Pre-orders are set to start on April 9.
