The developers of Godot have released a new version of their engine. It is version 4.4. It has been eight months since the release of the previous version numbered 4.3.

The release of Godot 4.4

Some key innovations include:

  • The Jolt Physics engine is now integrated directly into Godot as an alternative to Godot Physics. Previously, it functioned as an extension, requiring users to install it themselves. For now, it is an experimental option;
  • The updated engine allows you to run the game directly within the editor window and make changes to it;
  • The Godot team has made the "first steps" toward adding support for the OpenXR standard for mixed reality headsets. The engine now supports the Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, and Meta Quest Pro headsets [all belonging to the company Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation. — Ed. note];
  • Support for uber shaders has been added — precompiled versions of each shader with all their features;
  • Physics interpolation for three-dimensional objects has been introduced.

More details on the new version of the engine can be read in the Godot blog.
