Media: Unity Conducts Major Layoffs as Part of Business Restructuring

The company Unity has undergone a wave of layoffs, reports the portal 80 Level. According to its information, this affected both the technical and advertising departments.

As 80 Level writes, the layoffs initially became known through social media posts by former Unity employees. Later, the portal obtained a copy of an email in which the company's CEO, Matthew Bromberg, announced the downsizing to the staff.

According to the email, the layoffs are connected to the choice of a new direction for Unity's development.

"Our product and engineering teams are currently spread across too many projects. This creates challenges and reduces efficiency. Historically, we have taken a long time debating what to focus on, which hinders clear decision-making and affects our pace of work. In the hope of speeding up processes, we hired new people and created additional operational structures, but it turned out that everything slowed down even more. We are changing this approach," wrote Bromberg.

As part of the restructuring, Unity decided to merge several technical departments. Additionally — while not mentioned in the letter, it is noted in the posts of laid-off employees — the company disbanded the entire team working on the Unity Behavior tool.

Also, 80 Level writes, Bromberg reminded the staff that at the end of 2022 Unity and ironSource became one company. Almost three years later, they realized that "it was time to merge teams, technologies, and products, integrating them directly into the Unity ecosystem."

At the same time, the finance department was decided to be split into a demand side and a supply side.

How many people left Unity is not reported. The company might reveal this in the upcoming financial report, which is expected to be released on February 20.
