A new player in the technology sector, Artificial Agency from Edmonton, has secured $16 million to advance its "AI-powered behavior engine."

The latest funding round saw investments from Radical Ventures, Toyota Ventures, Flying Fish, Kaya, BDC Deep Tech, and Tirta Ventures.

Emerging from stealth mode after operating for a year, the company announced its collaboration with several prominent AAA studios and plans to release its engine for wide use by 2025.

Headed by former Google Deepmind members, the startup is focusing on utilizing AI to revolutionize characters and decision-making systems into unique AI agents with distinct perceptions, actions, personalities, and objectives, stated co-founder and CEO Brian Tanner.

Tanner elaborated, "This opens up opportunities for entirely new genres of games that offer enhanced creativity, expressiveness, and deep personal customization."

Similarly, earlier this year, Ubisoft unveiled its NEO NPC AI prototypes at GDC. Our team explored the opportunities and obstacles of player-facing gen AI in a detailed discussion.
