Oculus will reimburse royalties to Unreal Engine users

The creators of the Oculus Rift virtual reality helmet will reimburse royalties to all Unreal Engine users whose games will be sold through the Oculus store. This became known at the Oculus Connect 3 VR developers conference held in San Jose.

The program applies only to VR projects. Oculus does not promise ongoing financial support. Royalties will be compensated until the total revenue of the game exceeds $ 5 million.

Nate Mitchell, vice President of Oculus, commented on the initiative: “We have been working closely with Unreal Engine from the very beginning. We have used the engine in a huge number of projects, including Toybox, Dreamdeck, Farlands, Lost, Henry and the upcoming game Dear Angelica from Story Studio.”

In March 2015, Unreal Engine became free. The authors of the engine, Epic Games studio, take 5% royalties only from those games whose revenue is more than $ 3 thousand per quarter.
