Unity games generated 4.4 billion downloads in three months

In the second quarter of 2015, 238 thousand games created on Unity generated 4.4 billion downloads on 1.7 billion unique devices. Unity Technologies reported this in its report for the second quarter. We have an abridged version of the report in Russian.

Thanks to the collected installations, the company was able to obtain data on the general situation on the market with downloads of mobile games.

The top country by downloads, according to Unity, is China. This region accounts for almost 30% of their total number. The USA is in second place – with 10.3%. Brazil ranks third with almost 5%. On the honorable fourth – Russia. It accounts for 3.4% of global downloads. Recall, according to App Annie, according to the results of the first quarter, Russia occupied the third position in the world in terms of downloads (Google Play).

One of the important things in terms of downloads: India overtook Japan in the number of perfect installations of games in the second quarter of this year. Turkey and the UK, in turn, were ahead of Indonesia and Vietnam. In terms of platforms, the situation now looks like this:

Android is responsible for 82% of game downloads made in the second quarter of this year, iOS – 17%. The ratio varies markedly depending on the region.

If we take only two leading platforms as a whole (99% of downloads), then, for example, in Russia, the Android platform is responsible for 86.3% of the total number of game downloads, and in Japan, most of the game downloads – 53% – come from iOS. But the Land of the Rising Sun is an exception.

Today, it is necessary to keep devices from manufacturers such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Huawei, LG, Amazon, Lenovo and Sony in the QA department if you are making a game for Android.

They account for most of the downloads.

With an iOS device, it’s a little easier. There are few unambiguous download leaders – only three: iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. This is to the question of whether it is necessary to optimize the game for the iPad Pro, which accounts for only 0.5% of downloads.
