The ESA Foundation has granted scholarships to 31 university students to assist them in pursuing careers in the gaming and esports industries

The ESA Foundation recently awarded scholarships to 31 students pursuing careers in game development and esports, with amounts ranging between $5,000 and $10,000.

Two types of financial aid are available through the program: the Computer and Video Game Arts and Sciences Scholarship and the Esports Scholarship.

These scholarships include mentorship and access to industry events like the GDC Festival of Gaming.

The 2026-27 group consists of students from various institutions such as the University of Oregon, University of California Berkeley, Stanford, Yale, University of Southern California, Howard University, Dartmouth, and Tennessee Tech University.

Xavier Gonzalez, a 2026 ESA Foundation Scholar, remarked on the importance of the program: "The scholarship program has helped support my aspirations by connecting me with a community of people who share similar passions and ambitions."

"Beyond the financial support, it gives me the opportunity to meet others in the industry, learn from their experiences, and feel more confident in my own path," he added. "Knowing that there are organizations and individuals willing to invest in students like me has been incredibly motivating. The program has reminded me that a career in games is not just a dream, it's something I can actively work toward and achieve."

The Foundation also succeeded in raising $1.15 million during its Nite to Unite event, which was backed by IGN Entertainment.

Funds raised are directed toward current scholarships and initiatives focusing on workforce development, accessibility, wellness, and inclusion.

To date, the ESA Foundation has amassed over $24 million and has distributed more than 475 scholarships aimed at supporting underrepresented youth.

"Great games and strong esports communities are built by passionate people with fresh ideas, creative ambition, and the drive to make an impact," commented Sue Madden, the executive director of the ESA Foundation.

"Our scholarship program is designed to help students turn that passion into a pathway toward a future in the video game industry," she emphasized.
