Game director Carrie Patel, known for her work on Avowed, has joined the team at Night School Studios

Night School Studio, acquired by Netflix, has welcomed Carrie Patel, formerly the director of the game Avowed. Patel shared the news of her new position at the studio, recognized for creating Oxenfree, via LinkedIn, though she did not disclose details about her upcoming project.
Her career at Obsidian Entertainment spanned nearly 12 years, where she took on the role of director for the action RPG Avowed. Patel began at the company as a narrative designer in 2013, contributing to Pillars of Eternity and its White March expansions, and later advanced to be the narrative co-lead for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire three years after.
In 2018, Patel transitioned to narrative design for The Outer Worlds, including its second expansion, Murder on Eridanos. Additionally, she directed the premiere expansion Peril on Gorgon.
In 2021, Night School Studio became Netflix's inaugural game studio acquisition. The company continued developing Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals, which was released in July 2023. In a conversation with GamesIndustry.biz, Sean Krankel, the founder and studio director, commented on the impact Netflix has had on their operations.
Earlier this year, the studio reportedly reduced its workforce, although the exact number of affected staff was not disclosed. Additionally, Netflix decided to cancel six game launches to refine its gaming portfolio in line with subscriber preferences, including titles like Compass Point: West, Thirsty Suitors, and Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game.
