Night School Studio, owned by Netflix, has reduced its workforce, though the exact number of jobs affected has not been disclosed

Night School Studio has recently undergone staffing reductions, although specific numbers have not been disclosed.

Acquired by Netflix in 2021, the studio, which is most recognized for the game Oxenfree, reportedly surprised staff with these layoffs announced last month.

According to Game Developer, although Netflix opted not to comment publicly, it is understood that the downsizing will not affect any of the projects currently being developed.

The staffing changes coincide with Netflix's broader strategy shift, which saw the cancellation of six games as the company seeks to align its offerings with subscriber preferences, as detailed earlier this month.

Moreover, the beginning of 2025 has seen nearly 1,000 developers lose their positions, with significant layoffs at several companies including Freejam and Splash Damage. Other companies affected include Piranha Games, Jar of Sparks, and Ubisoft, which has cut 185 jobs. ProbablyMonsters, Iron Galaxy, and Sumo Group also announced layoffs.

Additionally, this week has seen reductions at Liquid Sword, NetEase Games, and Toast Interactive.
