PAX Unplugged Houston is scheduled to launch in June 2027. The event organizer commented, "It's a chance to bring PAX back to the PAX South fans that missed us"
PAX Unplugged is set to debut its first Houston event in June 2027, according to a joint announcement by ReedPop and Penny Arcade.
Originally launched in Pennsylvania a decade earlier, this event is dedicated to tabletop gaming. Sean Gonzalez, who manages PAX events, shared with GamesIndustry.biz that the tabletop gaming sector is thriving and has gained significant traction within the PAX community.
He explained that the decision to explore a new Unplugged location involved evaluating several major cities, taking into account interest from exhibitor partners and city infrastructure. "We leaned towards heading back to the South," he said, noting that Houston emerged as the ideal location for the new event while providing an opportunity for reconnecting with PAX South enthusiasts.
Following its cancellation "for the foreseeable future" in 2021, PAX South last convened in San Antonio in January 2020.
The Houston edition of PAX Unplugged is scheduled at the George R. Brown Convention Center from June 25 to June 27, 2027. It will encompass an exhibition area for analogue gaming vendors, plus panels, tournaments, and community gatherings.
When considering the prospect of expanding PAX events, Gonzalez emphasized the importance of delivering exceptional experiences for exhibitors and attendees who frequent current events.
"Our immediate goal is to successfully launch PAXU Houston," he mentioned, "before deciding on further growth."
Gonzalez noted ongoing enhancements at other shows as well, with fresh feature zones, stages, and programming tracks being introduced at the East and West events. He added, "Our expo hall consistently presents new games for fans.”
He expressed gratitude for the continued support from key industry players and a passionate community, stating, "Even amid industry challenges, our community's enthusiasm remains unwavering."
Ticket sales for PAX Unplugged Houston and media and content creator applications are anticipated to open later this year.
