Playing for the Planet is set to organize the Green Game Summit along with an awards ceremony this November

An initiative known as Playing for the Planet is organizing a series of events in November to gather climate specialists, policymakers, and leaders from the gaming industry.

Scheduled for November 6, 2025, at BFI Southbank, the occasion will host the Green Game Summit and the second Playing for the Planet Awards.

The Green Game Summit, under the management of the Playing for the Planet Alliance – backed by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) – aims to evaluate ongoing progress and identify further actions necessary to safeguard the environment and lower carbon emissions.

The Playing for the Planet Awards will honor the victors of the sixth Green Game Jam.

In collaboration with BFI, Bastion, and Liquid Crimson, and supported by organizations such as Ukie, Video Games Europe, Video Games Poland, Verband de deutschen Games-Branche, Dutch Games Association, and Syndicat National Du Jeu Video, these events have been organized by Playing for the Planet.

Sam Barratt, UNEP's chief of youth and education, remarked, "This year, we have witnessed major initiatives for nature involving billions of players by some of the largest gaming entities globally."

Barratt emphasized the event's role in showcasing effective strategies, staging discussions among leaders and experts so that the sector can intensify efforts to cut emissions and engage its audience. He described it as a promising event.

Keir Oldfield-Lewis, BFI's head of environmental sustainability, expressed pride in hosting this summit and awards ceremony at BFI Southbank for the first time in partnership with Playing for the Planet.

He highlighted BFI’s dedication to supporting a sustainable future for the screen industries of the UK, particularly in incorporating video games. He described the event as a pivotal moment to honor pioneering gaming businesses that are innovating in green technology and climate-focused storytelling on a global scale.
