The Playing for the Planet initiative is set to convene a gathering in November, drawing together experts on climate, policymakers, and leading figures from the gaming industry.

Scheduled for November 6, 2025, at BFI Southbank, the event will feature the Green Game Summit, concluding with the Playing for the Planet Awards for the second year.

Organized by the UN Environmental Programme-supported Playing for the Planet Alliance, the summit will examine advancements and possibilities in efforts to safeguard the environment and decrease carbon pollution.

The Playing for the Planet Awards will honor the champions of the sixth Green Game Jam.

The alliance has teamed up with BFI, Bastion, and Liquid Crimson, and the initiative receives backing from organizations like Ukie, Video Games Europe, Video Games Poland, Verband de deutschen Games-Branche, Dutch Games Association, and Syndicat National Du Jeu Video.

According to Sam Barratt, UNEP's chief of youth and education, "This year, some of the most prominent games have driven bold and visionary initiatives to protect nature, engaging billions of gamers worldwide."

Barratt described the event as an opportunity to share successful strategies, involve leaders and specialists on stage, and encourage the gaming industry to accelerate its efforts in emission reduction and player engagement.

Keir Oldfield-Lewis, BFI's head of environmental sustainability, expressed pride in partnering with Playing for the Planet for this summit and awards at BFI Southbank. He highlighted the BFI's dedication to integrating video games into its pursuit of an equitable and sustainable transition for screen industries. This event marks an important milestone in celebrating pioneering gaming companies focused on green technology and climate narratives globally.
