The RTA in Japan speedrunning charity event has revealed that Nintendo has prohibited it from using the company's titles without prior approval.

An update shared yesterday (translated by Automaton) stated that the organization was informed by Nintendo that they need to seek permission before including their games. Previous use of Nintendo's games was deemed "unauthorised".

Automaton highlighted that RTA in Japan officially became a legal entity in 2020.

This notice from Nintendo was initially given in June, prompting RTA in Japan to exclude Nintendo's titles from its event, taking place from August 9 to August 15.

Funds from the upcoming event will contribute to Doctors Without Borders, an international humanitarian group.

For upcoming events, RTA in Japan must "obtain individual permissions for each game they want to include," as mentioned by Automaton.

Negotiations with Nintendo have already started to facilitate these approvals.
