The initiative known as Four Billion Players has been introduced by the mental health organization, Safe In Our World, aiming to boost awareness regarding mental health resources specifically for gaming enthusiasts.

Considering the anticipated growth of the global gaming community to surpass four billion individuals by the year 2029, the organization is appealing to developers, publishers, and platforms to enhance access to mental health resources. The call is to incorporate tangible strategies that place support mechanisms directly in front of players.

Suggestions for implementation include displaying launch screens that emphasize Safe In Our World, providing links to the charity’s complementary mental health tools within game menus, creating in-game events or offering items connected to the charity, and establishing guidance within community spaces.

Sarah Sorrell, the director of the charity, stated, "Games have an extraordinary ability to bring people together, but someone can still feel alone while playing. We want every player to know there is help and hope, and somewhere they can turn. Four Billion Gamers is an invitation to the industry to help us share that message."

Leo Zullo, the founder and chairperson of Safe In Our World, emphasized, "Supporting the people who make games remains central to our work. Seven years in, we also want to use the reach of games to do more for the people playing them. A clear route to help may seem like a small addition, but it could matter enormously to the person who finds it."

Established in 2019, Safe In Our World has accumulated over $450,000 to fund mental health training initiatives. The organization has provided training for over 400 industry professionals in mental health awareness, extending its network to more than 200 individuals across 15 countries.
