Rockstar introduces an official platform for modding community

Rockstar has introduced a new platform known as Cfx Marketplace, designed to enable all servers and players to purchase mods.
In 2023, Rockstar Games revealed it had acquired Cfx.re, a modding group for Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Cfx.re is known for its development of the multiplayer role-playing servers FiveM and RedM, launched in 2015 and 2019, respectively.
Previously in 2015, Rockstar Games and its affiliate, Take-Two, labeled the FiveM server as an "unauthorized alternate multiplayer server" that supported piracy, resulting in the ban of its three main developers.
However, the company's stance on role-playing servers shifted by November 2022. The updated policy permits servers like FiveM and RedM to operate, provided they remain non-commercial, respect intellectual property and trademarks, and do not disrupt official online and multiplayer functions.
The recently launched "curated digital storefront" aims to offer creators a platform to distribute and monetize their creations, including props, scripts, and maps.
At its debut, the marketplace features a selection of creators that Rockstar collaborated with in its development. While some mods are available at no cost, other bundles may be priced at a few hundred dollars.
The initiative will be implemented in phases to provide an optimal experience for both creators and server administrators.
