Riot has returned the Hytale intellectual property and Hypixel brand to their original co-founder.
The co-founder of Hytale has regained control of the game from Riot Games.
This move follows Riot’s earlier announcement, made in June, that it would cease development of Hytale. Five months later, Riot Games decided to transfer the rights, aiming to give players a chance to eventually enjoy an updated version.
Simon Collins-Laflamme, the game's original creator, has reacquired the Hytale intellectual property along with all associated assets, including the Hypixel brand, which were purchased by Riot in 2020.
Riot CEO Dylan Jadeja commented, "Our decision was made after evaluating several propositions, concluding that returning the game to Collins-Laflamme best serves our player community. Despite leaving Riot, we trust that this transition will enable fans to experience the content the team worked hard to create."
Collins-Laflamme, who launched Hypixel with Philippe Touchette in 2018, expressed, "Reviving Hytale means the world to me and our community. I'm grateful to Riot for this opportunity. We have significant work ahead, but my aim is to release the game to players quickly and craft something exceptional with them."
In a blog entry titled "Hytale is saved!” he noted, "The journey forward is promising, with over 30 former developers already back on board, and more expected soon."
"Such transactions are rare in our industry," Collins-Laflamme remarked, "Thank you to everyone for supporting our vision."
