Yandex has launched an application search

Yandex has launched a mobile application search service — apps.yandex.ru . The service is available for owners of iPhone or iPod Touch, as well as Android phones. It is enough to enter a query on the Yandex service or in the mobile search, for example, [English-Russian dictionary] or [angry birds] and see relevant applications from the App Store or Android Market in the search results.

Finding the right application will now become quite simple. At the same time, it is not necessary to know the exact name of the program, just enter a query, for example, [free reader] or [educational application for children], and the service will show you what you need. Also, the search is possible even if the query is entered in Russian, and the description of the application is in English. For example, analogues of the famous board game that are not described in the App Store in Russian will be found on request [monopoly].

The ranking is influenced by many factors, including the rating of applications in the store, the number of mentions in social networks, etc. The most popular programs relevant to the query will get into the top of the output. Also, users can make a selection only for free applications.

“Application search is the first Yandex service, the mobile version of which we made earlier desktop,” says Denis Ivanov, project manager. — When creating and developing our services, we first of all think about the basic pragmatics of their use. It is obvious that mobile applications are needed in the phone.”

The mobile application search service is in beta testing mode only for Russian users.
